Exhibition "Enterprises" - Opening

July 10 – August 25 @ 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

 Location:

ZHOU B ART CENTER

1029 W 35th St

Chicago, IL 60609, United States

The exhibition "Enterprises" is an engaging story about Lithuanian culture, which in the modern world maintains a deep connection with its roots, about our country, which in turbulent times draws strength from the sources flowing from the nation's experience, creativity, and lifestyle.

The exhibition invites you to get acquainted with four unique Lithuanian cultural traditions included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity: cross-stitching, song and dance festivals, and thatched cottage gardens.

The exhibition is designed as a journey of the senses: you will visit Lithuanian summer fields, the light will highlight the textures of wood, straw, metal or fabric, you will hear centuries-old melodies echoing. Folk art works in the exhibition will meet the works of the most prominent contemporary Lithuanian artists, inspired by ancient traditions. "Versmės" is a story about the present, an invitation to experience culture as a living phenomenon - heard in songs, seen in ornaments, felt in material warmed by human hands.

The exhibition is organized by the Lithuanian National Cultural Centre. The exhibition is curated by Ray Bartkus. The artists and folk craftsmen of the exhibition are Ray Bartkus, Tadas Černiauskas, Rimantas Milkintas, Mantas Lesauskas, Augustė Santockytė, Marija Liugienė, Edvardas Mačaitis, Vida Sniečkuvienė, Artūras Janickas, Antanas Vaškys, Neda Gylė, Vilma Mare.

The grand opening of the exhibition will take place on July 11 at 11:30 a.m.

The exhibition can be visited until August 25 from 10:00 to 17:00.
